Grants of up to $1,000 to Hawaii nonprofit schools in eligible locations to support educational science programs. Funding is intended to promote science education in local public schools and to encourage students' interest in science-based careers. Eligible applicants are located on the islands of Oahu, Maui, and Molokai, and serve students from middle school through college.

Grants must be used for student education purposes in the sciences (examples: to purchase equipment, tools, educational and resource materials, supplies, and support for programs that foster educational excellence). Travel expenses may be allowable provided such costs are incurred to support the science education program and do not exceed non-travel program costs.

Estimated Size of Grant:

The minimum grant request is $500; maximum is $1,000.

Term of Contract:

Funds must be used for their stated purpose within a 12-month period from the date the cash grant is distributed to the grantee.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The grant program is open to established public schools in Hawaii on the islands of Oahu, Maui, and Molokai, serving students from middle school through college. Grant recipients must be legal nonprofit entities.

Not eligible: Activities for the purpose of further religious doctrine; memorials or endowments; nonscience projects; fundraisers; wages and salaries; and past purchase.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications are reviewed twice a year. This year’s application deadlines are May 21 and September 24, 2021.

Applicants will receive notification on whether or not their application was approved approximately 8 weeks after the application deadline.
