Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Fellowships of up to $10,000 to USA individual members and descendants of a Native American tribe and Alaska and Hawaii Natives to sustain, preserve, and share cultural knowledge. The program will provide recipients with both financial and technical support. Recipients will be offered capital, resources, and tools to build cultural contributions. Fellows will be required to attend a multi-day convening with the other artists and culture bearers selected for their fellowship year.

It is critical that art, culture and ancestral knowledge are passed on from one generation to the next. Through First Peoples Fund’s Cultural Capital Fellowship Program, culture bearers in tribal communities receive financial and technical support to further their important work.

Artists in First Peoples Fund’s Cultural Capital fellowship strengthen the Collective Spirit® -- which manifests self-awareness and a sense of responsibility to sustain the cultural fabric of a community.

Ideal Cultural Capital applicants demonstrate the following:

  • Are grounded in the rich cultural heritage of their Tribal Nations.
  • Share a commitment to passing on ancestral knowledge and practices within their communities.
  • Have a plan to document their ancestral knowledge for future generations.
  • Seek ways to sustain cultural sharing as a way of life within their tribal community.
  • Must be committed to furthering their native artistic traditions and passing this knowledge and wisdom on to a larger community.
